INDUSTRIAL UNREST IN BRITAIN
THE FOOD GRIEVANCE
A SEARCHING INQUIRY
(Bee. Juno 13, 6.40 p.m.)
London, Juno 12. Mr. Lloyd George (tho Prime Minister), addressing the Commissioners who have recently been appointed, for tho purpose of studying tho predisposing causes of Labour unrest, announced that the Government already had started a most searching investigation of tho question of profiteering -and high prices for food, for which profiteering may partly bo responsible. Ho hoped in a short time to mako proposals which'would substantially reduce the cost of some of the 'necessaries of life. The industrial machine had been working at exceptionally high pressure,' which had resulted in a good deal of oversta-ain, fatigue, and irritation. The Commissioners must investigate the causes of the disquiet. Tho 'efficiency of the' industrial machine would bo impaired unless the causes of unrest were removed. He hoped that tho Commissioners would Teporl in July. They were to thoroughly inquire into the food grievance and inform the Government whether tho latter's proposals would be sufficient or whether more drastic measures would bo necessary.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assu.
