1 SPEECH BY PRESIDENT WILSON NATION BORN TO SERVE MANKIND Washington, May SO. President Wilson, speaking at the Decoration Day services, said that with the help of God America would-show she was born to serve mankind. America had joined with the other nations to fight for the cause of human liberty. The present struggle was really a struggle for the defence of American honour and American rights, but it was also, a greater struggle—the struggle for men who love liberty everywhere. There were times when words seemed empty when compared with actions as great as these. The time had arrived when America would havo a chance to vindicate that which sho professed.—Aus.-N.Z. WAR TAXATION CONSUMERS PAT; WEALTH " . . ESCAPES. Washington, May 30. (invest is evident in Congress owing to the Senate Finance Committee apparently seeking to tax consumers and allowing the wealthy to escape. The taxes on sugar, cocoa, and coffee are heavy, but there is no tax on amusements, jewellery, picture films, and chewing gum. The House of Representatives intends to Testore the latter in the Revenue Bill when it Teaches them.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable. Assn. FOOD SPECULATION BARRED Washington, May 30. The Food Bill provides for a maximum penalty of three years' imprisonment for raising prices and speculation. BRAZIL'S NEUTRALITY REVOCATION BILL PA&SED BY CONGRESS (Rec. May 31, 5.55 p.m.) Rio de Janeiro, May 30. Congress has unanimously agreed to the Bill revoking neutrality, not merely during the German-American War, but the currency of the war between the Entento and tho Central Powers. It authorises utilisation of German ships interned in the northern ports of Brazil— Reuter.
