REDUCTION OF RACING
$ 1— GOVERNMENT AWAITING REPORT OF THE CONFERENCE. Before dealing finally with tho curtailment of tho number of totalisator permits to be issued for the coming racing season. Tho Government is waiting to receive the reply of the Racing Conference on the two alternative proposals submitted to the conference for the reduction of the number of racing days by one-third or by 0110 half. Tho matter will have to be dealt with soon, because the season begins on August 1, <ind tho clubs must know as early as passible how they are to stand, in order that they may proparo their programmes. It is understood that tho conference! does not agree with the Government that such a heavy reduction is necessary.
