OF ALIEN DESCENT
Sir,—Your sub-leader of May 17 opens up a subject of gra.vo import How about the young men of Teutonic origin who are now holding; down good jobs in the service of the Government, despite of their not being trusted to fight in defenceof tlvis country and the Government wliidi spoon-feeds them? Should the unexpected happen, and Germany gain these shores, theso favoured young men would have little or nothing to lose, and doubtless in many eases would l>o very useful to the invader. The very fact of their nomenclature and of their not having horno arms in defence of Uio Empire would be a persona gratia with the enemy. Surely amongst (he returned soldiers who have already fought anil bled to ensure that these positions be available thoro should be some who could adequately fill them aud who are beyond doubt deserving of them.—l am, ore., QUERY.
