LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
COMPELLED TO ATTEND THE RACES A' MATTER FOR INQUIRY. .Sir,—On Tuesday last tho men belonging to the rT.Z.A.M.C. now in training at the Showgrounds, Pnlmerston North, received their pay, and next day were eompulsorily marched to tho racecourse at; Awapuni", whero they were dismissed. This was done, notwithstanding a protest from tlio men, many of whom objected. About one-half on being dismissed immediately left the course and had to walk back to town, a distance of three miles. I am informed on good authority that at least four men wero drank when they returned, one a Ind of 22 who had never been seen under the influence of liquor before. Tn the best : nterests at the boys and those dear to them, a fidl inquiry into this incident should be made, and those responsible for it given some position for which they are better fitted tjian commanding men.—l am, etc., G. 11. BENNETT. Palinerston North, May 17, 1917.
