HANDLING CARGO
BIG COMPENSATION CLAIM.. By Telegraph—Press Associ.iti in. Auckland, May 1. The system of handling cargo between vessels by shackling the gear of both together was reviewed in the Supreme Court in respect of a # claim by Florence Johnson against the Huddart Parker Company for £2000 damages, on account of the death of plaintiff's husband, a waterside worker, who died from injuries received , through such gear carrying away. ! A special jury decided that the system was not dangerous, and judgment was given for the- defendants. Plaintiff and her three children were awardeel £500 under tho Workers' Compensation- Act. . .
The members of the jury donated their fees (£18) to the plaintiff.
