BOWLERS V. NON-BOWLERS. The above match was commenced on Saturday evening at tho rooms of the AVcllington Chess Club in the Y.M.C.A. Building. Mr. C. \\: Tanner, the club's senior vice-president, extended a hearty welcome to the large number of visitors assembled, and declared tlie match opened shortly bofore 8 p.m. As the pairing had been done in advance and a working bee had been busy with preliminaries in the afternoon, the 42 players assembled were able to commence hostilities without delay. "When refreshments wero served at 9.30 p.m. each side had scored seven games,, and matters were very interesting. Later in the evening tho Bowlers had what bad luck was going, losing ono garao tliaC they should have won, drawing another i game that should have been theirs, and losing a game that shoxild have been a draw. The result of these three mishaps is that when play ceased at 11 p m. they wero three points to the bad, instead of being a point ahead of their opponents. Tho tally now is: Non-bowlers, 11.wins; Bowlers, 8 wins, drawn games 2, outstanding games (to •bo accounted for by Saturday week) 16. Messrs. J. A. Cornell (Carterton), S. Gyles, ! H. A. Harper, Hopkins, Kerry, Stephens, Connell, jun., Dalrymple, Dorubuscli, and Helyer for the Non-bowlers. ■ The gaines Tanner v. Fouhy -and Bland v. Faulknor wore drawn.
