£1000 FOE FUEKISHING IN HAND. Yesterday the Mayor , (Mr. J. P. Luke) was advised by Colonel Potter, Camp Commandant at Trent-ham, that he had received, two cheques for £100 each as contributions towards the furnishing fund of tlie new Soldiers' Club at Trentham. Olio cheque was from "Mr'. G. L; Stead,, of Christchurch,and tho other from Sir. R. Hannon, of Cambridge. This brings l tho amount ■ of cash in hand up to £997, in addition to which the committee has promises of billiard tables from Wanganni and Christchurch. A louder has already been let for the furnishing, and the Mayor is making arrangements for the club to bo opened on May 1. Ho is asking the Minister of Defence (Hon. Sir James Allen) to preside at Iba ' opening function. v . • ■ ,
