THE WRECK OF THE MAITAI

AN UNCHARTED MUSHROOM . REEF. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, February 24. At the Court of Inquiry into the stranding of the Maitai, the evidence on behalf of Captain Maclean and the chief officer was completed. Captain Cliffs, the pilot at Auckland, said that he was of opinion that the Maitai struck on an uncharted mushroom reef at R-arotonga, where the Navua struck nine years ago when under his command.' At the Navua inquiry the Court's recommendation for a re-survey as far aB he knew had never been tarried out. He further considered that Captain Maclean was right in attempts ing an anchorage, and generally justified all his handling of the vessel. The addresses of counsel will be heard on Monday.
