By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, February 19. At tlio Military 6'ervico Board to-dav Barton aud Co. applied on behalf of Robert M. Wilson, boot operator, for an extension of time. It was pointed out tliat Wilson, who was previously a voluntary recruit, was engaged on .a macbiiie"malring military boots. His firm desired his retention for that reason, as it had several important military contracts onfiaml. Counsel said that Wilson v was tho only expert man of his kind in the firm's factory. There wore in his charge some machines whion. can ho used ohly by a few men in New Zealand. If this man was taken away from the factory thpy would hare to closo down. Before the war there wore about 1500 operators, and they were now down to about 1100. Birj military boot contracts had doubled the amount of work, and the position was the same throughout the. country. The case was held over for two months, by which time further consideration might he desirable if the firm secured a further military contract.
