ON THE MARCH

TWENTY-THIRD REINFORCEMENTS. Tiio Twenty-tliird infantry Reinforcements will march into Trentham camp this morning, after having completed the journey from Featherston camp, across the Rimutaka Hill. The usual field and night manoeuvres were engaged in en route, the troops being under tho command of Lieut.-Colonel C. R. Mac Donald, .Chief Infantry Instructor. The Twenty-thirds left Featherston at 9 o'clock on Thursday morning, and were led to the foot of the hill by tho Camp Military Band. Fino weather was experienced and good time was mado to tho top of the hill, where the ladies of tho Featherston branch of tho Wairarapa. Patriotic Society had hot refreshments ready for the men. Kaitoko was reached at_3.3o p.m., and tho troops went into bivouac at Collett's Farm, where the advarce party and tho Twonty-fourth A.S.C. draft had made preparation for their arrival. A comfortable night in bivouac was spent. On Wednesday ton wagons of th'o Twenty-fourth A.S.C., under Lieutenant Standish, had crossed the hill from Featherston. Tliev tarried tho stores for.-the troops which were to follow them. Tho blankets and waterproof sheets wero sent by rail to Knitoke, where the wagons pickcd them up and transferred them to tho bivouac.

Yesterday the Twenty-thirds marched to "Upper Hutt, arriving there about, noon. Tlny A.S.C. and advance guard had preceded them again, and lunch was ready on their arrival at Maidstone Park, iir the afternoon the draft moved out to various positions near Mangaroa. and Wallaceville, where thev mado preparations for night work and an attack at dawn. The C.G.S., Colonel 0. M. Gibbon, inspected the work, during the afternoon. ' The Ambulance from Feathorston accompanied the troops to Kaitoke, wherethe Trent-ham Ambulance. took over. The call made upon them was not heavy, the troops showing remarkable keenness and fitness 011 the march, while their discipline was considered to be excellent. Following are the officers of the draft, of which Captain M'Carthy is 0.0.:—A Comrmn>\ Captain M'Carthy; B Company, Captain Firman: C Company, Captain Kelighor; D Company,Captain Greer; IS Company. Captain Burrell;.F Company, Lieut. Cowan; & Company, Lieut. Jamieson; .11 Company, Lieut-. Papps; J Company, Lieut. AVeymouth. _ . The Twenty-fourth Infantry Reinforcements transferred to Featherston j Camp yesterday.
