FIELD DAY
GARRISON OPERATIONS TO-DAY. Tho troops of the Wellington Garrison are to engage in field operations to-day, in accordance with a plan of action that has been prepared by the staff. Colonel G. F. C. Campbell will command the Blue Force, and Lieuten-ant-Colonel F. J. Courtonay the Red Force. Major. J. L. Sheeman the Red Umpire-in-Chief. The plan of action provides that .in enemy fleet shall laud the Blue Force 011 beachcs between Lyall Bay and &eatoun for the purpose of capturing Fort Dorset. This happens at 10 a.m. The' Red Force, or defending force, has been concentrated at Mastcrton, and reinforcements cannot arrive to help the garrison of Fort Dorset before 5 p.m. The Coast Defence Commander (Red) therefore dispatches the available garrison of Wellington men by water to reinforce the fort. Operations will commence at 2 p.m.. when the enemy will have completed its landing, and commenced its attack, while the Red Force will occupy a defensive position running north and south of Bcacon Hill. - The public will not bo permitt«l to following* the troops over the private property of the Messrs. Crawford at Miramar.
