CATHOLIC PINICS

A GOOD OUTING The annual picnic for the children of the Catholic schools of the city was held at Rarori Park yesterday. The weather was ideal, and an excellent outing was enjoyed. Tho committee, headed by Mr. P. D. Hoskins._(the seerotary), arranged for everything that picnickers could desire, and the ladies made excellent provision for those who attended the gathering. Throughout the day competitions (chiefly races) for children and others were held. Tho 100 yds. schools' championship was won' by T. Colomb, of tho Tasman Street School, with Plimmer,' of the Hawkcstone Street School, second. Tho attendance of adults was large, arid included His Grace Archbishop Redwood, His Grace Archbishop O'Shea, and a number of the Catholic clergy. Special car arrangements were made by the Tramway Department to convey the children to the Park in the morning and return them to the city in tho evening. The loading of the returning cars was expedited through the committee > lining the children up in order and dispatching separate schools at a time!

Baby Show-'(girls).—Mrs. Martin, 1; Mrs. Lyons, 2; FATHER. LANE'S PICNIC. The annual Catholic picnic, known as Father Lane's-picnic, was one of the ohief attractions in tho Hutt Valley yesterday. Sports and games woro provided for old . and young. Though the picnic at Katori was somewhat of a counter-attraction to Wellington resi-; dents, many made tho journey from the City in the afternoon.' The children were specially oatered for, and thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Tho sports and games were controlled by the Sports Committee, composed of Messrs. Mitten, O'Connqll, I'earce, O'Brien, ' Gleeson, L. O'Sullivanj Neazor (2), Evans. Messrs. R. G. M'Kay and'D. Hickeywore secretary; and treasurer respectively. The judges were Messrs. O. A. Seymour, W. Hickey,W. Dennchy, and "the starter Mr. W. M, Welch. ' The refreshment stalls were in charge of Mcsdames Patton, Cookson, and Lynch, and the afternoon tea ■ stall was presided over by Mesdames Neazor and Connelly.
