WELLINGTON SOUTH FIRE STATION
TO BE ERECTED FORTHWITH. The long-proposed now I,ranch fire brigade.station, to beor.eoted.at.the top of/Constable Street, on a . site on the Town Belt, is,to be proceeded with almost immediately. This station will supersede altogether the one ill' Adelaide lload, which was woll enough placed to suit the requirements of Wellington South of twenty/years ago> but has outlived its usefulness as a base from which to work all fires in the larger district included in Greater Wellington (which takes in Kilbirnie, Hataitai, South Kilbirnie, and Maranui). The new site at the top of Constable Street hill will give the brigade a fine, overlook of all tliosQ districts, and at the same time provides a down-run' for the motors, no matter in which,, direction the fire happens—an all im-' portant thing where motor traction is concerned. In order to make a level site for the new station,, it will bo necessary to remove about 6200 cubic yards of spoil from the Town . Belt. Tenders for that work will close with, the Town Clerk on Monday nest.
