NO REGRETS AMONGST SPANISH REPUBLICANS NEW EMPEROR'S APPEAL TO THE ARMY | Australian-New Zealand Cable Association, Madrid, November 24. The Spanish Republicans refuse to associate themselves with an official message of regret at the death of Emperor Francis Joseph. They say they cannot forget that Austria was the aggressor in the war. A CO-REGENCY SUGGESTED London, November 94. The "Daily Chronicle's" correspondent at Milan states that Vienna messages report that when the Emperor Francis Joseph's condition gave an-' xiety, the Premier, Count von Koerber, summoned the Grand Dukes to Vienna and sought to induce the Emperor to agree to a co-regency. The Emperor on Monday, at midday, first expressed a presentiment that the end was near, and sent an urgent summons to the Court Confessor, _ Bishop Eveling, who was closeted with the Emperor for two hours. During the night and on Tuesday morning the fever increased, and the Emperor passed the afternoon in an armchair, tormented by fever, coughing spells, and delirium, though he insisted _ on listening to tho latest war bulletins. Ho gave an audience to tho Archduke and prominent statesmen. Through the Papal Nuncio tho Emperor sought and obtained a. special telegraphic blessing from the Pope. He relapsed
into delirium at 6 o'clock, and then followed a crisis of tears. The Emperor died quietly at 9 o'clock. Extraordinary police precautions followed, his decease. Arrests on a large scale were made in Bohemia and the Italian-speaking provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Arohduke Carl's proclamation to the troops produced intense depression amongst the soldiery.
