On his return lib related that bo mixed freely with the German frontier troops, who are'mostly middle-aged men from the Landsturm. Ho'was informed that thero were plenty of young men still available. Tho Germans fighting on tlio Somnio have been ordered to take no prisoners, but to use tho bayonet. Three hundred thousand troops are now preparing new dofonsivc works behind the third line. At Verdun there is tho bitterest disappointment, and two Bavarian regiments mutinied.
