WELLINGTON-NAPIER EXPRESSES
TEDIOUS DELAYS. A question regarding the' running of tho Wellington-Napier expresses was addressed by Mr. George Hunter to the Minister of Railways in the _House recently. Mr. Hunter asked whether, in order to avoid tho tedious delay that so frequently hifppens at Ashhurst, Ho will arrange for the passing of the NapierWellington, mail trains at Pajmerston North. Tho Hon. Mr. Herries (Minister of Railways) replied yesterday: The traffic at Palmerston North during the busy parts of the day is at present much congested, and considerable difficulty would be experienced in dealing with additional trains at that centre. Furthermore, the stations at which trains cross are largely dependent on the time at which they commence their journey. A complete revision - of time-table would be necessary to enable an alteration such as that suggested to be brought into operation; and, as the times of departure from and arrival at terminal stations of tho Napier express were fixed to meet, as nearly as possible, the representations made by the users of the service, any'alteration in the time-table in the direction of making an earlier 'departure from, or later arrival at, Napier would meet with strong opposition. Delays at crossing stations are unavoidable, and are kept as low as possible. '
