PRODUCE FAIR

IN AID OF STARVING BELGIAN CHILDREN. To-day and ou Friday at tho Town Hall is tq be held a produce fair, the proceeds of which are to go towards the relief of the hundreds of thousands of Belgian children whom reliable authorities state are bordering on starvation in tho land' that has been ravagpd by the ruthless and conscienceless Hun invaders. Tho effort is being made by the school children of the Wellington district at the stance of tho Lord Mayor of London, and is one the success of which .depends upon the public. Everything that will be exhibited for sale has been given—the Town Hall has been given free of cost, the sschool children have given money and kind, and tho teaohors and headmasters are to superintend the fair on both days. Conse-. quently there will be no school for tho remainder of the week AH day yesterday cartloads of produce wero deposited at the door of the Town. Hall, ranging from ' sacks of wheat, oats, chaff, and pumpkins, to home-made delicacies of a most delectable character. There wero fowls, alive, dead, and plucked, turkeys, ducks, sides of-bacon, quarters of mutton, cases of home-made jam, preserves, and sweets. The ' boys from the Weraroa Farm sent down a consignment of fern-stands and baskets, and others sent plants and ferns to put into them. The headmasters and others were hard at work all day and last evening and this morning the ' teaching staffs are to arrange their stalls. These are five in number—Wellington Technical School, Horowhenua, Hutt Valley, City and. Suburbs, and Wairarapa North and South. In Hie evening Turner's Mandoline and Guitar Band is to play a number of. selections. The fair will be opened by His Excellency theVGovcrnor at 3 p.m. to-day.
