THE LUCKENBACH LINE
AND A GEEMAN STEAMER, More inquiries wero made in the Housg yesterday by Mr. Pearce about tho Luck, enbaoh Line of steamers; which Is entering the trade between the Bast Coast ports of America and New Zealand. Mr. Pearoc asked whether tho Government •was aware that Mr. Harold Ebey, who recently visited ■Wellington and appointed. Messrs; Dalgety and Company agents for the •Luckenbach Lino of steamers from New York, is the same Mr. Ebey who is agent- for the interned German steamor Serapis at San Francisco, and if the Government find this to be the case whether they will ask the Australian Government to 'interrogate Mr, Ebey on arrival at Sydney. . . The Prime Minister said that tho Government was being put in a difficult position by questions in tho House on this subject, and a eerious mistake was being made in asking them. The Government was making full inquiries, but the matter presented certain difficulties makinsr it no easy ono to deal with.
