EARLY CLOSING
NO COMPROMISE YET. '- A conference of several members regarding the question of hotel. closing hours was held yesterday, but no finality was reached. Another conference will ■be held to-dny. It is now stated that there is no likelihood of sis'o'clock closing, and that the only, possible-com-promise is 9 o'clock closing, anti-shouting, no referendum, and more drastic control of the" liquor traffic on. tho lines indicated by Mr. Herdman in his speech on the Bill last week. Tho question of compensation is said to be the principal dimculty in the way of arriving at a compromise.
