ATHLETIC V. PETONE. Tho match between Athletic and Petone. (third class),, at the Athletic Park on Saturday, resulted in a victory for Petone by 9 against 6. Petone bad tho heavier' team of the two, but did not get going until after half-time. Tho play was even generally until hnlf-tinie, nml J. Macaulay managed to get over the lino with a few minutes to go, thus giving Athletic a lead of three to nil. After: tho change round tho play was mostly in the Athletio half, excepc when ono or two determined rushes carried tho Petone team back to look after t'her own end. At length a penalty was awarded to Athletics, and A. M'Carlhy sent tho ball between tho posts, making tho score 6 to 0. After that tho play went to .the Athletic sido again, where A. Millar managed to scores tries twice in succession, and A. Parker fell over tho lino in the last minute, ending tho match withi Petone 9 and Athletio G.

SELWYN V. UNIVERSITY. Id the match, Selwyn v. University the play wus mostly on the University side,'they being two inon short. For University S. Dickson scored ono try, which wus not converted. For Selwyn, S. AYogan scored two tries, a penaltygoal was kicked by H.'Bock, and 4. Lyndsay kicked a goal from the field, giving Selwyn a victory of 13 against University's 3.

OTHER GAMES. In the fifth class match between Athletic and Oriental, the latter were defeated by 11 to 0, and in t'ho Gth class match, Scotts" Collogo v. St. James, the former wero defeated by 9 to 1. At Low.er Hutt, the local fourth-class team defeated Old Boys by 11 to nil. At Potone, Old Boys defeated Ponekc by 18 to nil. Petono Fourths defeated St. James by 11 to nil. Petone Fifths defeated St. James by 30 to nil. Poncke Sixth Class defaulted to Petone. INTER-COLLEGIATE CONTEST. NEW PLYMOUTH BEAT TE AUTE. By Telegraph—j'ress Assertion. New Plymouth, June 'U. New Plymouth High School defeated To Aute College by nine points (three tries) to three (a try). The match, in which a great deal of interest was displayed, was open and interesting, thy football shown being quite up to the inter-college standard.
