In tue llacic iiuruies, u.b»si;c oi' uaim •was made a very otroi.g oruer. lie wi« going weil in tue van when lie struck a nurtlle in li'ont of tJie btand and came down. This "lelt Jem in front, but at tliu six furlongs fteiib'itivc! and UiatUHl went out by themselves. Sensitive jumped tlie better; but Gliuilul more than equalised matters on- the lint, and at tto lost lenee tie Had.- everything ill trouble. Czaronus, a promising sort of maiden, by I'atronus from Czariuu, linished on well, and got second, with Sensitive, Brunswick, Turelmna, and' Jem in that order?
In the Maiden. Hack Race, Serbia, on the inside, and Sli-y Girl were the first to -show out, and led a strung-out iiekl into the straight, where Woodlark and Atuatoro camo on the scene, and half way down tho running Anza, who was always weil up, shot out, and in ■ a good finish he beat AVoodlark'by a neck. Atuatoro was closo up, then came Shy Girl. Crown Imperial got a very bad run, being choppeel out at 1 the half-mile. I'or the Nursery Handicap, Hyllus was a good favourite, but tho Karamu colt has evidently soue off, as !b.e failed to finish in a place after being well placed at the turn- for home. Sarah Grand was tliß first to become prominent,' and,' attended by Beltane and Tinkler, she led into, the, straight, with Sunny Climes and Hyllus 'handy. Beltane failed to finish well, but Tinkler put up a good fight, and Sarah Grand had to be ridden right out to win by a neck. Tresseda, Hyllus, and Sunny Climes .finished next to the placed division.
Downham wjus the choice for the Porauga'hau Handicap. Shrill jumped off badly, but she showed great pace and soon ran to the front, with Sea Lord and Halina. Entering the home turn Downham and Hushabyo joined in, and over the. last furlong this pair, with Greenstreet, Sea Lord, and Halina, were in a , line. Downham gave way fifty yards off the. post, and in the last bit Greenistreet scored by a neck from Hushabye. Downham ■ was" a half-length away, and then came Sea Lord and Halina in a line.
■•'lie 10, accoptors in the Oup all faced the starter. It was a very wide betting race, Multiply the actual favourite, liupahu.and Pursefillei- caused a long delay at the barrier, but the starter succeeded in getting all away in n good lino with tlio exception of Pursefiller and Municipal,- who took no part in the race. Passing the stand t'lie first time tliero was no pace on, but then Master Lupin went out and led-Lady Louisa, Wishful, and ! Eligible down the track, «;itli Rupahu, Multiply, and Indigo bringing up .the rear Eligible moved ,up on the.' bend, and hej Lady Louisa, and Master Lupin, were just clear of Balboa and Wishful as t'ho straight was 'entered.. Eligible held his own in. the run home, and won very easily by a good two lengths from Wishful,' who was a head in front of Balboa, Then camo Blackall (running on), Lady Louisa, Orleans, and Bed Itibbon. It was a good performance by the . three-year-old, who ■is now to go into winter quarters, and next season will be found opposing Desert Gold at IJandwick in the. spring. Indigo and Multiply failed badly, but. Balboa ran a sterling race under his big weight. . A rank outsider in AVooloomooloo turned up in tlio Open Hurdles, in whichi ho won easily after Ivew, who was alongside of him, had fallen, at the last fence. Morning made the Tunning with Kew for a mile, - when the top-weight, who \yas a good, favourite; was -beaten. Kew then went on in front, but Wooloomooloo had him-.three furlongs from homo and won by'.fifty yards, Braeburn wore down Morning, and. beat' him for second place Aruake and' San Pan fell at the back of the course. -Thewiniier was bred in Australia and raced there and here with varying success. . He has done a couple of seasons at the .stu<l," but has been in ivork tsiiice. January. . •.: .The< first ■ favourite to Win during'tlio day turned up in the Poukawa Hack Han, dicap, when , the ICaramn. candidate, Aurore, who ivas heavily supported, scored from .the stable cast-off, Shaki. Toki, who got a very, bad run, was close up, and then came Grand Idea.' Shaki niade all 'he running, and the favourite only got up in the last few strides, Ladogeur, ICooya, and Gold Soult were wicked in that order for the Autujiui Hnndicap, but once again the favourite tailed, the winner turning up in Koova who .stripped, very well. The- favourite and Inmier led to the turn, where The Summit, rah through, but was immediate y challenged by Gold Soult and Kooy'a and m the run home the last-named won by a length: Gold Soult was eased up in third place, well clear of Spain, Mandoline, and Sicily, who finished in that eider. - - •
