It was decided to. instruct the licensing committee to inquire into the case, and immediately oancel the liconse if the alio**tions were found correct.

NOTES AND COMMENTS

[By Giencoe:] J Entries for the principal events at the Auckland Hacing Club's winter meeyng close 10-night at 9 o'clock.

Owing to the absence of Mr. Skipwith at Avondale, the barrier at Feilding on Wednesday was entrusted to Mr. A. Keith, who was successful in all but the concluding event, in which three horsesGeorge, Miralma, and Mystified—took no part in tho race.

Weights for the Hawke's Bay Cup meeting are due to-day. Those interested should note that acceptances close on Tuesday next. s

Nones was favourite in the Great Antumn Handicap run at liiccarton yesterday, but the Martian mare could only finish fifth.

The performance put up by Marc Antony in the Great Autumn Handicap wasthe best yet registered by the ex-hack, who is a greatly improved horse this season. The winner is by the imported Varoo from Volodia, a smart hack in tho south some few seasons ago.

The Avondale meeting will be con. eluded to-morrow. '

The winning of Kilboy in the C.J.C. Challenge Stakes would bear' out' the general opinion of those present that he was unlucky to lose the Champaeno Stakes. It; looks now as if he is the equal of any of the other youngsters, and as he is a well-grown two-year-old ho should make an ideal Derby colt. His owner and breeder, Mr. J. B. Eeid, is to be congratulated on owning such, a first-class . colt, who will go into retiromert with excellent prospects as a ihr«-year-old. 'He is by the imported Kilbroney, who was a great stayer when racing in England. Mr. J. B. Eeid has not won the Challenge Stakes previously. The locally-owned Seadown was again successful at EicaTton yesterday, and the Downshire gelding.returned his supporters a. ■good price.

In addition to registering a win with Kilbuy, Mr. J. B. Reid was also successful with Killena in the two-year-old handicap. The last-named is nn inmate of. M. Hobbs'a stables, wliilo Kilboy is trained at Porirua. , It is.understood that a local owner was negotiating for the piiTcbase of Kilboy after that youngster had raced in the Hawera Stakes in February last, but no business resulted. Several good .judges who witnessed this running were also impressed with the bay colt.

Los Angelos, who is now well in the veteran stage, has been nominated for the Egmont Racing Club's winter meeting.

The entries received for the Marlborough Racing Club's Cup meeting are very satisfactory, and the Riverlands CI lib should have a most successful autumn gathering.

It. Johnson, of New IMymou'th, is, getting into shape several promising youngsters, the most likely-looking one of the bunch.' being a two-year-old full sister to Ton Tore (Maniapoto—Gallantry). She is a handsome filly, and should come to hand early.

At Christchurch on Wednesday the two-year-old gelding Swale (Danube— Lady Reina) was sold for 18 guineas, and •his 'stable companion Worth (Danube— Tetrawmii) brought 82 guiuMj.
