Ahmc Day was celebrated to-uay by a procession of Gallipoii veterans and a largo gathering in the ,'l'own Jlall. At a dinner ill tiio evening a large number of returned soldiers attended,'aud His Excellency tue Governor was liresent. The Governor read a cable message from tlio Jung, wbicli lias already been published. "1 know from private letters whioh lie has written to me," His Excellency continued, "liow deeply touched His ilajosty has been at all tne gallant deeds whicn were wrought in that small 'urea on Gallipoii. Probably, and I daro say it lias struck some of you, I should almost have preferred to have known' fess day as Gallipoii Day, because there were otners with you who shared in the glory aud in" the triumph, of what happened 1 on the Peninsula—not least the 29tii Division—(cheers)—and once again, the' sailors of the fleet. (Cheers.) There is an officer hero to-night who has more service than myself—i refer to Captain Wuliingford—(prolonged cheers, and ones of "Good ( old Wallie")—who, though he is hero under the disguise of brass buttons instead of a black and brown belt, served with me in the saino regiment for a very considerable time." The Governor referred to the need for forming a permanent association of men who fought at Gallipoii, in order that annual reunions might be possible. Several officers and the Mayor also spoke, the proceedings being marked by great enthusiasm. Special services were held, in the churches during the day.
