ANZAC DAY
THE SERVICE IN THE TOWN HALL.
The Mayor has written .to Captain Donald Simson that lie should convey to returned soldiers a request that they should attend the Memorial Service in the Town Hall on the afternoon of Anzao Day, and the patriotic meeting m the evening. The returned soldiers will comply with the Mayor's request, and a special section of the main body of the hall will be reserved for returned soldiers and tlieir relatives) PUBLIC SERVICE HOLIDAY. . Anzac Day is to be observed as a vAiolo holiday in the Public Sorvice throughout New Zealand. The previous arrangement was that it should bo a half-holiday only. EXCHANGE OF FLAGS. The exchange of flags between the> New Zealand and the Now South Wales Railways, which is to take place on Anzac "Day at the Petone Railway Station, is creating much interest in the Hutt Valley. The Mayor of _ Petone (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) will preside, and the Prime Minister and several Cabinet Ministers will attend the function, whicV commences at 3.80 p.m. A feature of the, programme will be 'the singing of about 1200 children. Tha Trentham Camp Band will render selections, the unfurling, of the New South Wales flag will be performed by the Prime Minister (the Hon. W. F. Massey), and the unfurling of the New Zea. land flag by the Right Hon. Sir J. G. Ward, Bart. Speeches will be delivered by Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., Mr. E. H. Hiley (General Manager of the New Zealand Railways), arid Mr. T. Stone (Railway Department). The Hon. W. H. Herries will unfurl the Union Jack. Tha Petone Unit and the Railway Section of the National Reserve will parade at the celobration. ! CELEBRATIONS IN AUCKLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, April 21. The children of tho schools in the Auokland Province celebrated the anniversary of tho Gallipoli landing yesterday, when patriotic addresses wero given to the assembled scholars.
The following uniform resolution, issued by the executive of the Anzac Day Commemoration, is to be proposed at all public meetings lield on Anzae Day throughout Queensland: — ■■ "On this the first anniversary of the landing of the Australasian troops on Gatlipoli, this meeting of citizens of Queensland emphasises the unswerving loyalty of the people of this State to tho throne and Empire of His Gracious Majesty the King, and pledges their determination to maintain the partnership of national sacrifice which has been sealed already by the blood of Austin.' lasia's bravest sons.
