DOCTORS AND LODGES
THE DISPUTE ABOUT PEES.
A conference called with the object of settling, if possible, the dispute about fees between Friendly Societies iind doctors, was held yesterday. The Minister of Public Health (the Hon.. G. W. Russell), wlio had convened the meeting, presided, and representatives of the societies and the doctors interested were present. Nothing official was made available for publication after the conference had concluded. It is understood, however, that no finality was ' reached. There was agreement on all the subordinate, or less important, points of'difference, but on the main question of the rate of payment per member to the doctors no agreement could be reached. The lodge representatives came to the meeting with no authority to offer more than the old rate of los., and the doctors had no authority from their colleagues to accept less than the rate previously stipulated in their proposals,'to the societies of 24?. per member. , The present position is that the delegates of the lodges will refer the question to the societies, and the doctors in their turn will refer their side, of the question to the 8.M.A., with the. object, it may be presumed, of bringing about some compromise.
