RESPONSIBILITY OF SONS AND brothers;
An inquirer at tho Town- Hall Recruiting Office yesterday, who doubtless voices the feeling 'of many others, put a pertinent point to Captain Barclay, iio said that his personal desire was to volunteer for service, but he was the sole support of his mother and sister, and if he were to enlist lie could not see how they: were going to exist on what he was able to leave them out of his 6s. a day.' If be were a married man. his course _ would be quite clear, as there would, in audition to what ho was able to leave them, be a separation allowance for his wife and child but. ■ such concessions did not extenci to his mother-and sister. In on the case, Captain Barclay said that a man so placed in Franco would not be allowed to enlist. But to their undying glory, the women of France, had said-''Take every man, and we will support ourselves upon one condition, and that is that wo will not be asked to pay rent the war." To that tho Govornment had said 'All.right.' Then landlords had risen up, and said that if that was to be the case they could not pay tile rates, and again the Government had said— 'Allrightl' And so the men had been released all ,'over the country, to do the country's most urgent task—to win the'warl"
