On July 30 the rate was raised to 4 per oent., and on July 31 it was raisod to 8 per cent., and on August 1 It was further advanced to 10 per cent. On August 6 tlio rate was reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 i ! t was further reduced to & per cent., at which rate It now Btands. . l'nc Hank of France rate is 5 per cent., as against 4 per cent, prior to the war. OPEN MABRET RATE. The open market discount rate for three months' bills is 5 1-16 per cent., as compared with 5 1-16 per cent, last week and 2i per cent, last year. Short loans are quoted at 45 per cent., as against 4?,- per cent, last week and 1 3-8 per cent, last year. COLONIAL AND OTHEK PRODUCE. Butter.—Dull, liigli prices checking demand. A little Australian is selling; the spot price lor choicest nominally salted is 154 si to 1565.; unealtod, 1565. to 1605.; secondary, 148s. to 1505.; Now Zealand, choicest ealted, 158s. to 1625.; unsalted, 1625. to 164b. Oheese.—Unchanged; rather easier tone, as delivery is improving; The Government is lending soldiers to fetch shipments I'rom the docks. Wheat.—Nominal, Pacific and Australian cargoes are not offering; sailers unable to gauge the position of the trade. Flour.—Easter. , Oats.—Dull. Bahia Blanca', on passage, 295. 3d. Beans.—Slow. New Zealand spring, 50s. to 525. Peas.—Dull. Now Zealand maples, 555. to 60s. Sugar—Unchanged. Wool.—Bradford tops, moderate inquiry; prices steady and unchanged. METAL MARKETS. Copper—Spot, £113 forward, £110 nominal. Tin, £197, £191 10a. Pig-iron, 83s. 3d. Lead, £35 2s. 6d., £35 7s. 6d. The local wheat market is a little firmer. There -is Icsb offering, and growers are not so ready ,to accept the prices lately ruling, i Milling Tuscan is worth 4s. 2d. to 4s. 3d.; Hunter's, 45.-3d. to 4s. 4d.; and pearl, 4s. sd„ though a prime line of the latter "would probably bring a . penny more.. Oats are still, very dull of ealo and difficult to sell, except somewhat under- late rates... . There is still little business doing in ' potatoes, growers -waiting to see how the crop is going to tarn out. Customs duty, collected at the port of Wellington -yesterday amounted to £4347 Ct). sd.
