SUPREME COURT

DIVORCE PETITION DISMISSED

In the Supremo Court yesterday, before His Honour Mr. Justice Chapman and a common jury of twelve, Emily Cochrane petitioned for divorce from George Cochrane 011 the ground of alLfged desertion. Mr. I'. W. Jackson appeared for tho petitioner, while Sir. H. F. O'Leary appeared for the respondent. Tho parties were married at tho Registry Office, Wellington, in 1892, and there were live children. The alleged desertion consisted of what is known as "constructive" desertion, the petitioner stating that she had to leave her husband in LOOS because of his persistent cruelty to her, The jury retired shortly after 5 o'clock and returned in about .1 quarter oi an "hour with a verdict in favour of the respondent. The petition was dismissed.
