Fighting with grenades, the French were enabled to drive out tho enemy from some of the. trenches they occupied west of La Folie. The Germans during the night attacked positions on tho Neuyille-La Folie Road. The attacks were repulsed, the enemy, only in one crater, which had been previously lost. South of the Somme, in the course of minor actions on Tuesday and Wednesday, the French captured fifty prisoners, two machine-guns, and a larger piece. \ > . _ , „ „ London, February 11, 2.00 a.m. "Two attacks by the enemy at the west of Hill 140 were repulsed, and we occupied the cratsr after a mine had been exploded by the Germans on the Neuville-Thelus Road. A German communique states: "We" captured a large section of trench north-west of Vimy, and recaptured in the neighbourhood of Neuville St. Vaast the crater which was in the enemy's'occupation. _ "We captured twenty-two machine-guns and repulsed local attacks south of the Somme. , . , "The enemy north of Eacquincourt obtained a foothold iu a small section of our foremost trenches." i ENEMY CONCENTRATING IN FLANDERS (Rec. February 11, 10.30 p.m.) Amsterdam, February 10. Many trains filled with troops have passed Louvain, and are concentrating at Roulers and Courtrai. Most of tho men are from tho Balkans, and : many are mere boys. "A COLOSSAL RESERVE OF MUNITIONS" FRENCH STATESMEN'S ASSURANCES TO ITALY. (Reo. February 11, 11.45 p:m.) .. Rome, February 11. The French Cabinet Ministers were accorded an enthusiactic welcome on their arrival here. M. Thomas (the French Munitioner-in-Chief), in an interview, said that by the spring France would possess a colossal reserve of munitions. The Allies were hastening the output to tho utmost. M. Briand (the French Premier), in an interview, said that he was hope- , ful of securing tho most serious support of Italian statesmen, and bringing tbeir joint work to a successful issuo by establishing a closer and more fruitful co-operation amongst the Allies.
