OBITUARY
SIR' CLEMENT MARKHAM. Br MegrODli—Press Association—Copyright (Reo. January 31, 9.10 p.m.) London, January 31 The death is recorded of Sir Clement Harkham; liis demise followed upon shook from burns sustained during a fire which broke out at his residence.' [Sir Clement Markliam, distinguished explorer and author, was horn in 1920, and educated at Cheltenham School, and Westminster; entered the Navy jn 1844; served in the Arctic Expedition of 1850-51; left the Navy 1852; travelled' in ' Peru, 1852-54: introduced the cultivation of tho ciuin-ine-yielding chinchona trees from I'cru into British India, 1859-62; (geographer to tins Abyssinian Expedition; Sicroi'ary fo the Royal Geographical Society, 1863-88; Secretary to tho Haiduyt Society, 1858-87; Assistant Secrotavv in the India Office, 1867-77.
