IMPORTS OF WHEAT
A CORRECTED STATEMENT. I A Press Association telegram. from Christchurch appeared in yesterday's paper to tho effect "that the Prime Minister informed a deputation of grain merchants that the Government did not intend to interfere in any shape or form with the grain trade this year, nor to import any wheat." Mr. Massey'on being interviewed yesterday, said, that the statement was incorrect. All that the Prime Minister stated was that he expressed the hopu that it would not be necessary to interfere during the present season with the grain trade, but that any action that might be necessary would depend upon' the actual quantity disclosed by the returns from the threshing machines which will later on be forwarded to the Government Statistician. There was no reporter present when the deputation, waited on tho Prime Minister, and tho statement therefore is unofficial •
