TENDERS FOR TINNED MEATS
SUPPLIES FOR THE IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT. ByTelogranli—Press Association—Copyright London, January 18. Tenders are invited for tinned meats. The quantities are not mentioned, indicating that the Government desires to ascertain the supplies available, especially immediately, as it inquires tlie earliest date for delivery in England. An Admiralty tender for six, four, and two pound tins of corned beef closes on March 1. The War Office has made a new departure, for in addition to corned mutton and beef, it is inviting tenders for boiled meat. The tender closes on January 24. The cases are to contain 48 lib. tins or 24 21b. tins. '
An important stipulation is that there is not to bo above 3 per cent, of salt and 0.2 per cent, of potassium nitrate, as the soldiers have been complaining of oversalt meat, which is considered harmful to troops going to the front trenches, where tliero is not an abundance of water.
