HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

'At the monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council yesterday the chairman (Councillor M. W. Welch) presided. It l was decided to co-operate witli the city ■authorities! in the endeavour to preserve I tho bush on tho'far side of the harbour by directing that -camping parties should only be allowed to light fires in the open air on tho sea-side of the road. The dog tax was fixed for 2s. 6d. for tho yoar for all dogs in the county. Wednesday was decided upon as tho statutory half-holiday for the current yoar. It was decided that all rates unpaid on February 14 next should bo loaded with a 10 per cent. fine. In connection with the proposal' to construct a concrete motor track on the Hut'fc Road between Wellington and Petono, the action of the chairman' (Councillor M. W. Welch) in opposing this was endorsed. He was instructed to continue his opposition at tho meeting of the Hutt Road Board to be"hold next Wednesday. In his report, the inspector of works (Mr. J. W. Cudby) stated that tho maintenance of all roads throughout tho county had beeii attended to during the period since the last report. The roads were now in very fair order. The ferro-conerete bridge in Wainui-o-mata was neariug completion, and the approaches wero being filled in, The report was adopted.
