MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. L. G. Ileid, S.M., presided at yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court, there being only. a few cases for hearing. Neilson, a married woman, 25 years «of age, pleaded iiof guilty to a charge of stealing a fox terrier dog, valued at lOii., the property of Frances Williams. Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared for the. accused, and raised the defence that the dog had not been stolen, but merely held as a set-off against some of the accused's household belongings, which - were held by the informant pending the settlement of an account for beard. After hearing the evidence, the Magistrate- held that i. technical i heft' had boon committed. The accused was convicted and discharged. A young man, nauiou Arthur Cudby, pleaded to charges of theft of two bicycles and a tube of solution. The value of tlw stolen property was set down at £6 os. Gd. The accused was remanded for a week for sentence, and liberated 011 light bail. Norman Copelaud M'P'nee was committed to the Supreme Court for trial on a charge of assaulting an elderly female with interit to commit a crime. Mr. H. F. O'Leary, who appeared for the accused, applied for bail. This was granted in the sum of £100, and two sureties of £50 each.
