Whyto will receive acceptances for the first day's handicaps at Trentham. Entries for the Trial Plate and Disposal Stakes close at the same time. Mr. R. W. Short, secretary of tho Wellington Trotting Club, will receive acceptances for next week's meeting nj till 9 p.m. 011 Friday. Mr. C. F. Mark, of Auckland, who has been to . Christchurch to ' attend a meeting of the Trotting Association, returned home yesterday. ■K. J. Mason is expected to arrive here 011 Sunday morning with Emperador and Nones. ,Tho former will start in the Waterloo Stakes and the filly will contest the Wellington Stakes and Kelburn Plate. It is now definitely stated that Desert Gold will be sent to Trentham to take part in the Wellington Stakes and Kelburn Plate. The presence of Mr. T. H. Lowry's filly will be a special attraction of the meeting. Sir Geo. Clifford and Mr. W. H. E. Wanklyn, of the Racing Conference, will both be present at Trentham next week. H. Cutts will arrive at Treutham ou Sunday with a team of six horses. They will probably be Adjutant, Flying Start, Wisebird, and the two-year-olds Good Hope, "Wrestler, and Tantalus. Bribery, who was one of the best steeplechasers Australia ever produced, was destroyed a few weeks ago. Bribery was by Malvolio, from The Gift, and won many big races when traine'd by D. J. Price. His best performance was when lie won the Flemiiigton Grand National Steeplechase with 12st. 111b. in the saddle. Tho late F. Archer, who rode his first winner in 1870 and his last in 188G, had the handling of tho stupendous number of 2748 winners, an average of over threo winners a week for 16 years. It may Aot be generally known that the famous horse Cyllene, whom English sporting writers grandiloquently describe a3 "the only living sire of four Derby winners" was within an ace of coining to New Zealand at one time in his career. It appears that the late Mr. Thomas Morrin, whose death was recently announced from America, cabled ail offer of 12,000 soys, for the son of Bonna Vista and Arcadia. But his owner wanted 18,000 sovs. Mr. Morrin cabled ho would spilt the difference, but his offer was turned down. Subsequently Cyllone was sold for 31,000 sovs., to go to Argentine, where he is now 'domiciled. The four Derby winners sired by Cyllene are Cicero, Minora, Lemberg, and Tagalie. After winning at Mentone early this month Honorine, the full-sister to Anna Carlovna, was sold by E. A. Connolly to a patron of Jas. Scobie's stables. It is believed that when A. 'E. Neale purchased the Spalpeen gelding Nicomar at Ellerslie, he was acting for Mr. 6. P. Donnelly, who may be trying to secure a National winner. The San Francisco three-year-old San Sebastian got cast in his box at Chokebore Lodge stables the other morning, and kicking through the door damaged his legs considerably. J. Olsen has been engaged to ride Chudic in the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham. Hyginas and Downham are hotli regarded as -likely starters in the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham. The former generally shows his best form here and lias w-?n as a two-year and three-year-oid.
