The New South Wales Premier (Mr. Holman) has been much heckled over the question of the employment of Germans and Austrians in the Public Service. It is stated that forty have been dismissed, while \ some sixty-five have still been retained. These are mostly elderly persons of unimpeachable character, who have married Australians. This out of a total of sixty-five thousand Government employees. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LOAN A GREAT SUCCESS. (Rec. November 9, 9.45 p.m.) London, November 8. The South Australian loan has been over-subscribed, and is quoted at par to ss. premium. [The South Australian Government issued a loan for £2,000,000, the rate of_ interest being 5 per cent., and the minimum price of issue 99. The loan has a currency of five to seven years, redemption being due in 1920-22. Taking the shorter period, the yield to the investor allowing for redemption is £5 4s. 7d. pel- cent., and the sevenyear currency the return works out at £5 3s. 6d. There is no wonder the loan was over-subscribed.] ANOTHER THIRSTY DAY.
