The Suburbs Defeiv.e Rifle Club opened their season with a team's match at the range, Broadway, Mirainar, on Saturday. The president and secretary picked teams from the members present on the range. The match was ten s'hots at 300 and seven shots at 500 yards. The president's team won. The fiwfc score at 300 yards was by A./ J. Jackson, with 47. at 500 yards. H. R. Hunt notched on 34. Next Saturday the club will fire at ranges 300, 500, and GOO yards. On Labour Day the club will fire their annual match against the Jiinton Club, PalmeTston North, at Minimal*. All members are requested to put in an appearance on tlio range next Saturday, in view of tho above matches. The inatc'h will bo 20 men a* side. ,

HIGHLAND RIFLE CLUB. The H.D.R.C. held its first practice at Trentham on Saturday, when teams selected by the president and the deputypresident tried conclusions, the result beins a win i'or the former team by 4 points, after an exciting finish. Owing to the unavoidable absence of the patron, Lieut-Colonel Mackintosh, the opening shot was fired by Captain Hobbs, one o£ tlie vice-prjsidents, who was fortunate enough to register a "bull." It was a. rifleman's day, and none lost the opportunity to adjust their sights in readiness l'or the first series, .which will commence next Saturday. The shooting was good, considering no flags were available. Rflmn. Pitt headed the list with 76 out of a possible 85, and was closely followed by Rflmn. Priddey with 75. It was intended to fire ten shots at 300 and ten at 500 yards, but owing to pressure of time it was decided to fire only seven shots at the longer range. This was the club's first visit to Trentham this season, and the members were gratified to find that the Defence authorities had luada every possible arrangement to ensure a good afternoon's sport.
