* — . THE ANNUAL REPORT, The second "'annual'''report ,of the Wellington .South Progressive. Society, to bo'presented;to' the meeting to fie held to-morrow evening, states: — "Your executive is pleased to; report that the work .of the'society, even in a year of great stress and strain and perplexity, was'productive of good results. • Tho .great outstanding local event of the year was 'the energetic effort by whicli the City Council has thrust the Constance Street and Kilbirnie extension of tramway into.prominence, and the remarkable haste with ■which the work of that extension has been prosecuted. It is true; that our society genuinely preferred what is known as the Wellington Road route for the tramway,' but the fact that tramway communication between Kilbirnie and Newtown was our main object in this matter, and that tho route was only a secondary consideration iyas never disguised. Now we are getting a greatly improved road to Kilbirnie made'at a great expenditure of tho City's money, for wlncli we lravo not a shadow of responsibility, and later there must be a line down Wellington Road also.: ' Your executive has to report, also, several other successes —the public conveniences-for iren have been completed, and-the side-path in front of tho sections adjoining the Hospital grounds 'has been flagged, along the distance that •wo were anxious about; and so far is a great improvement."
