"The Alpini attacked t'ie enemy's trenches in front, of tin positions at Palpiccolo, and carried the greater part. "There has been further notable progress in the Carso Plateau," where strongly held trenches were captured. We took prisoner one hundred and two officers on July 26. AUSTRIAN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. (Rec. July 29, 9.45 p.m.) Amsterdam, July 29. An Austrian official communique states"The Italians failed in a' second and more formidable >attack on G'orizia. The enemy used seven army corps, and tried' to break through without regard to cost in men or material. "Our cruisers and torpedo boats attacked the railway from Ancona to Pesaro, bombarding buildings with considerable success. A great explosion, followed by fire, occurred'at Fano. „ "Our waterplanes bombed the railway station, battery, barracks, and other military points at Ancona, destroying much material, and igniting a petrol reservoir." GORIZIA COULD BE TAKEN NOW. Paris,' July 28. . The Milan correspondent of the "Echo de Paris" states that the Austrian staff lias left Goriziaj and that General Cadoma could occupy it if lie were not so solicitous regarding the lives of his men. The Italian artillery is tenaciously employed against heavy guns on the dominating' heights, which command the town and render it untenable at present.
