INVESTIGATION STILL PROCEEDING. . The .investigation being made by the bacteriologists into tho nature of the bacillus which .has, worked such havoc among tho soldiers at Trenthanrhas not yet disclosed, the slightest ground for alarmist rumours current a couple of days ago about the outbreak of some 'virulent disease there necessitating the immediate removal of the men. It is an admitted fact that measles has appeared in an especially malignant form, and-that the influenza has also been of a bad type, but no proof has yot been discovered of the existence of any other 'disease. pay 2s. each for their beds. Surely when a man was offering to fight for us the least we could do would be to give him a free bed. Anyway they were only mado of Canvas, and could not cost tho Department 2s. Ho ivished to know whether the Department would grant a refund to tlioso men who had paid for their beds. Mr. Allen said that palliassse had been provided free for men in the huts. Ho did not know exactly whether men in the tents, who did not need them, had been charged- for them." Sir, I am afraid the gentleman who made this statement has been misled. Tlie Treiitham Infantry (Lord Liverpool's Own) were placed 1 in the huts, and' every man was instructed to buy his palliasses from the canteen. Tho only men who did not pay for tlioir own beds were those who came in camp without money. Tlio officers and N.C.O.'s had to make good for them.; It seems liard that the men should have to pay for their own beds, and it. is, nof right that the general public should bo misled like this,—l am, etc.,: : ONE WHO PAtD.
