PLEASURES IN WAR TIME.
Sir,—Would you kindly allow me space in your valuable paper to refer to a .letter, in Saturday's, issuo, re the stopping of races-in New Zealand during tho progress of tho war; and I think, also, something should be dpne to prevent 1 .having liquor and card- playing in all clubs'.during tho progress of the war. Perhaps the many members of these clubs, who have said, when asked for small donations to get comforts for our boys (now fighting for our existenco) that they have already given, and cannot afford any more, etc., but they still seem to have heaps of spare cash for the above luxuries, and little time to think and-realise our serious situation at the present time, but still continue in their selfish habits, and never wait to think of giving any .of them up, even if it were only to set an example for tho younger community during the progress of this war. I am suro it would mean a great help in many homes—l am, etc., - . " ONE WHO KNOWS, July 8, 1916.
