The facts, which were admitted, were that' defendant employed the lad for a few hours to assist . him is the delivery of milk, and for that the lad was paid 4s. per week. \ Mr. A. W. Blair contended for the defence that the defendant' was not an Smployer, and "therefore riot a party to the award. . Tlie Magistrate agreed with' the contention, and dismissed tho information, remarking that the defendant wa§ .not an employer within the meaning of tho Act. ' • POLICE'OASES. When' Henry. Edward Green 1 pleaded | guilty to stealing a quantity of brass, t the property of the City Council, Inspec-, tor Eondrey explained that the offence had bad features in that by his act accused .had cast suspicion on other City .Council employees, and moreover had made his wife a party to the crimo by getting her to 'sell the stolen; brass. Green was fined 405.,. with the option of one month's imprisonment. He was also ordered to pay £2 13s. 7d. to tho City Council, the value of tho brass ; stolen. , '. ' ' Two young men, Thomas Higgins and Thomas Herbert Woodcock pleaded not guilty to stealing £3 from the Automatic Bakeries Company. They were remanded to July 13. For disobeying a . maintenance, order, in respect to his wife, William Baillie was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended if the arrears be paid l by Tuesday next. ■ Charged ; with insobriety, Thomas Brocklebank and' John Pryse were, each fined 205., in default three days' imprisonment. H. W. Hardie, who while driving a motor-car overlook a tramcar on the near side, was penalised to the extent of £1 for this offence.' A fine of £1 with costs 7s. was im-' posed on_ J.
