PETONE FIRE BOARD
ANNUAL MEETING. There were present at the annual meeting of the Petone. Fire Board yesterday Mr. J. W. M'Ewan (chairman), and Messrs. Forsyth, Truoman, Kemptlionie, and Ching. An apology was received from Mr. C. R. Smith. The Under Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs notified that the following were elect 3d members of the board:—By the insurance companies, Messrs. T. P. E. Ching H. E. Kempt home ,and C. It. Smith; by Petone Borough Council, Messrs. J. W. M'Ewan, W. E. Forsyth, and W. Trueman; by the Government, Mr. R. Mothes. Mr. J. W. M'Ewan was reelected chairman for the ensuing year. The Inspector of Fire Brigades' (Mr. T. T. Hugo) reported that an inspection of the brigade was made on June 24. The "turn-out" with the horse and cart was executed very badly. It took 4 minutes 10 seconds to get under way, and after' stopping it took 12 minutes to. make aonther start. The inspector stated that an immediate remedy was required, either by purchasing a firemotor or another horse. The report was received. Superintendent Lepper's report stated that during the year 17 calls had been made, and the total loss was £292 10s., of which amount the sum of £166 was covered by insurance. ' The statement of accounts showed that the receipts had been £9-12 14s. 10do and the expenditure £1076 6s. 7d.
