PERSONAL NOTES
Private Aaron A. Clarke (died of wounds) was the eldest son of Mr. W. Clarke, of Petone. Born at Pittsburg, America, 22; years ago, he arrived in Petone when he was seveii years old, and was educated at the local school. When he enlisted he was with Messrs. Webley and Co., Petone. ■
Trooper David Bartlett, who was removed from Trentham to the Wellington Hospital about a week ago suffering from measles and pneumonia, died in the institution yesterday . morning: He was twenty-one years of age, and came from Christchurch.
Private E. A. Wiggins (killed in the Dardanelles, while serving with the 2nd Australian Light Horse Field Ambulance) was a son of Mr, J. Wiggins, of Wanganui, and 28 years df age. He resigned from the New Zealand Post and Telegraph Department three years ago, and was farming in Queensland when he enlisted.'
Private N. F. Burnett,' son of Mr. J. Burnett. Chief Engineer of the Railway Department, has written, advising that he was wounded on May 8 umllet wound through lower,part of chest), and is now in the Fifteenth General Hospital, Alexandria, doing well. The doctors anticipate that he will be fit for duty by the end of July.
Chaplain-Captain H. L. Blamires, writing from the base hospital at Cairo, says that the Rev. R. J. Sullivan, of Timaru (who is serving as a corporal in the Canterbury Battalion), had a very narrow escape when he was wounded at the Dardanelles. He was lying in a semi-conscious state after his wound had been hurriedly dressed, and ambulance workers had passed on to others. Opening his eyes, lie saw a big Turk, knife in hand, at his side. Fortunately he was taken for dead, and the 'Turk cut off his boots and cleared.
