STRANDING OF THE AMRA
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.! Auckland, June 28. Further particulars of the stranding of the steamer Amra on a reef at Vuna Point, in the Fiji Group, which was reported from Suva last week, was received by the Niagara. Captain Rolls, of the Niagaray'stated that when his vessel was approaching the Fiji Group on Thursday morning a wireless call for help was The Niagara's course was altered, readied the vicinity of the accident, shortly afterwards. The ship's launch was'sent to the stranded steamer, but the captain of the Amra said that no help was required, as lie had lightered a-portion of the Amra's cargo and jettisoned a good deal t.f tho blinker coal.
It was seen that the Amra was resting her bow'on to'the reef, with about 30ft. aft, and the ship showed no signs of leaking or being badly damaged. Communication was made with Suva by wireless, and it was arranged that the Fiji Government steamer Kauadi should proceed at once to the Amra's assistance and endeavour to tow her off. The Niagara''then went on to Suva. Tho Amra went ashore at 4.20 p.m. on Thursday during thick weather, Vuna Point is on the west side of Tavitiui Island, about eight hours' steam from Suva.
