All officer of the Black Watch describes the death of Lieutenant Haldane, son of Earl Haldaiie, recently Lord Chancellor: "He climbed under the barbed wire with his pockets filled with bombs, and tearing his kilt to ribbons, mounted the German parapet and signalled for reinforcements. Then he started to throw bombs at the enemy. "He received many wounds, but accounted for many Germans. No wonder the enemy styles us 'kilted women from Hell.'"
