Eight weeks of the tremendous onslaught have failed to conquer the Russians in Galicia. The Russians temporarily retreated, inflicting astounding losses on their assailants, while their own casualties were comparatively insignificant. Generals von Mackersen and von Linsingen were outgeneralled, inasmuch as the Russian armies are still unbroken ,aud hold together in a line outside the enemy's. Meanwhile, the Germans on the left bank of the Dniester are defeated. The German leaders in this region are impatient at the success of tile Russians' cold and calculated strategy. When expelled from the villages on tho river bank, they worked hard to throw pontoons across the river, but the Russians, with a devastating artillery fire, retained complete control There are indications that the Germens employed on the Dniester, unless they quickly extricate themselves, are likely to encounter a series of inglorious reverses. The Germans have begun a violent artillery outbreak on the WirballenKovno front (North Poland). The Russians have recovered the ground lost at tho Orjiec and captured five machine guns. Prior to the Austrian reoccupation of Lemberg, males from fifteen to fifty left the'city. The Russians removed the grain, oil, and coppar supplies - also the contents of the museums and galleries. ' According to documents found on prisoners, the Kaiser and General von Hindenburg, assured tie troops that Warsaw would be entered by Juno 20, and Galicia cleared of Russians by June 30. Then peace would be concluded with Russia. GERMAN NEWS PAPER UNEASY. Amsterdam, June 27. The "Cologne Gazette ' says: It is extraordinary that the Russians should still be battling in 'the neighbourhood of Lemberg. Herr Morant, in the "Berliner Tageblatt," says the taking of Lemberg is not sufficient for the Austro-German forces, which must continue operations until the Russian armies are destroyed. • THREATENED ATTACK ON WARSAW, Amsterdam, June 27. A Berlin communique states:—"We stormed a Russian height on tho north bank of the Dniester, between Ha'licz and Chorodo\v ; pursued tho enemy, and reached a point midway between Zuravno and Rohatyn." AUSTRIAN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. (Rec. June 28, 9.50 p.m.) Amsterdam, June 28. An Austrian official communique states:—"Our troops, afte.- several days' fighting, captured the enemy's advanced positions, and reachtd within storming distance of his main position on the heights at East Dawidowka, east of Mikolajow, finally penetrating the line at several points near and south of Bolerka, where they ejected the enemy fioni their adjoining frontal position.
