AT FARMERS' CONFERENCE. Defence matters may bo discussed at the coming New Zealand Conference of the Farmers' Union, when.'the following remits are brought up:— Naval Defence. —"That in the opinion of this conference, although the unity of the Empire Fleet must always ( remain imperative, the heart of the Empire being vital to the extremities, yet some form of local defence is a necessity, and.will te.nd to develop the sentiment of personal interest and sacrifice to the Empire to a greater degree than a. purely monetary subsidy." Naval Subsidy.—"That the Dominion assist to build up a strong Pacific fleet, and that the present subsidy to the'lmperial Navy should be devoted to that purpose and iucreased." Training Camp.—''That the Defence Minister be urged to consider the advisability of establishing permanent training camps, where men could attend at any time of the year for training."
