CAPTAIN SEDDON'S POSITION
VOLUNTEERED IN AUGUST LAST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Clsborne, June 18. The question of Captain Seddon not having gone to the front having been raised in a Wellington journal, Captain Seddon, who is at present in Gisborne. feels that his sido of tho matter should be made public. He sent a letter to the Coinmaudant in August of last year, as under:— Sir,—l feel it my duty, firstly as a New Zealauder, and secondly as one whom'this country trained for military defence, to offer my services in the Expeditionary Force now i being enrolled, if a suitable position can be offered me. If you think a personal interview is desirable, I shall be glad to wait upon you at any time and place. Yours obediently, (Sgd.) R. J. SEDDON. The Teply ho received was as follows: Department, of Defence, Wellington, Auguct 7, 1914. Dear Sir,—l am directed by the General Officer Commanding to thank you vary much for your letter of to-day's date, and to inform you that your name has been registered, and will have every consideration when tho appointments aro made—Yours faithfully, (Sgd.) TAHU RHODES. A.D.C. Since this wate he states that he has heard nothing further on tho matter either by lottor or communication of any sort. Many people have asked why his services have not been accepted, and he has not been able to reply beyond the fact that he volunteered at the outbreak of tho war, and is still rea-dy to again go forward at any moment to servo his King and country.
